Collin Trimble
Collin has also faced insecurity in his life. He came as a surprise to his parents when they were very young. Early on, it was apparent that Collin differed from a lot of babies. He was very sensitive, seemed often agitated and didn’t connect well with others. His father decided it was too much responsibility and left his infant son and wife to make it on their own. It was difficult for his mom, Linda, who had planned to finish college, but now had to be a full-time mom to a kid with a lot of needs.
We meet Collin as “the headphone wearing kid” in Mikaela’s English class. He’s an easy target for bullies, as he’s quiet, shy and obviously a bit different from the majority of students. In the story, there’s no diagnosis or label attached to Collin’s special sensitivities. There are lots of kids just like Collin, who simply perceive and process information differently than most others. They are often referred to as “on the spectrum.” While being different in this way can be especially difficult during the tween years, the ability to perceive things that others can’t, or do so in a different way, often leads to rewarding insights, experiences and successes a few years later in life.
We briefly meet Sal, the building supervisor who oversees maintenance at the building where Collin and his mom live. Sal, a father of grown children who took Collin under his wing, was an important part of Collin’s childhood. We learn that there was once access to the secret tunnels of Good Harbor via the boiler room in the basement of the building, but the team finds it to be sealed up. Don’t be surprised if this access point becomes handy for The Legends in upcoming adventures!
