Kendall Fontenot
One of Kendall’s defining characteristics is her boundless energy and optimism. Unlike her friends, she’s not faced the insecurity of moving and changing schools. She’s grown up in the house her parents brought her to as a newborn, and has attended the full K-12, Benjamin Franklin School since kindergarten.
Her goal is to become a pilot, and her dream to become an astronaut. She’s becoming aware that as a black female, there will be roadblocks. Her solution; aim high, never to take no for an answer, and maintain a positive attitude. To Kendall, there’s no challenge too difficult and no accomplishment out of reach if you put in the work.
Kendall’s inspiration comes from her great-grandfather, who was a Tuskegee Airman, one of the first black pilots in the US military, and a war hero. She keeps a photo of him in her room along with a model of his plane, the P-51C Mustang. She often reminds herself, if he could do it then, she can certainly do it now.
We see Kendall’s confidence and skill when she has to not only out fly Malcolm to rescue herself and fellow Legends, but also navigate through nearly impossible obstacles.
Kendall is a tech whiz, and it’s no surprise. Her father is a software engineer who just can’t get enough technology in their lives, as we learn when we visit their house. Kendall has no problem integrating technology into any task and doesn’t shy away from it one bit!
